Daniel Topka ́s piece is connected to the process of „reading“ - the reading of books, pictures, films, theories, facts, nature, ultimately the world - from which only forms and surfaces remain. In recent years, Topka has actually created sculptures from literature and films - recreating books, DVD covers, and video cases as ceramic objects and transferring them into space as sculptures, where they seductively and decoratively embody the distance between language and image, image and depiction. His objects are subtle, sophisticated, and correspond with painting, mysticism, and semiotics. Yet Topka ́s [...] surfaces remain deliberately decorative, empty, and elude didactic deciphering.
