Paintings by Jagoda Bednarsky are based on an immense ‘archive’ of past and possible, impossible, invented and actual images. She questions history and brings it into the present, but aims ahead. The connection is a new linking of all those images that she appropriates and makes her own. The surreal landscape motif in combination with the disembodied female breast serves as the foundation for her paintings.Through an interplay of motifs, colours and gestures, she creates pictorial worlds in which the breast as a symbol of creation, the source of life per se, becomes part of landscapes. The breast is detached from the female body, fragmented, abstracted, depicted as a mountain or a hill.
