Jakob Forster lives and works between Berlin and Rotterdam. His works arise from a profound examination of everyday forms and materials and the significance of production and use that can be read off from them. On the one hand, Forster is interested in the specific temporality and historicity of objects, which arise from the melange of their conventional use, their method of production or sensory references. On the other hand, his practice processes the critical implications of industrial production and the closed cycles of consumption, devaluation and depreciation associated with it in their creative expression. Forster‘s mostly reproductive processes insist on their own structure of representation, which not least contains a reflection on concepts of (artistic) work. Forster’s works were shown as part of the Parallel Program of Manifesta 10 in St. Petersburg, at Het Nieuwe Institute in Rotterdam, BWA Wroclaw Glowny in Wroclaw and Tonus in Paris among others. In 2024 he was nominated for the Painting award of Kunsthalle Lingen.
