Two epoxy casted boxing gloves, one standing on a pedastal, the other hanging from the ceiling, are seemingly drawn to each other. Simultaneously they threaten to collide violently. „Under Tension“ challenges gravity, as the sand encapsulated within the epoxy seems to flow together, held by the tension of the gloves.
The state of being „under tension“ is difficult to endure both emotionally and physically. The artist reflects on interpersonal relationships as well as inner conflicts. During the casting process, Katharina Mährlen‘s own 8 oz boxing glove was casted using a latex mold, the only molding material capable of withstanding the heat and tension of the hardening epoxy.
