In the ongoing project "Mutterland", the photographer— a so-called “post-Wende” child—describes his inner connection to the rural area in the former East Germany where he once spent his younger years. It is a silent, monochromatic contemplation on injustice and pain, betrayed hopes and false promises in the former GDR‘s lost landscapes, decaying regions, and people.

As well as a confrontation with his own family history, the feeling of unavoidable and severe loss, and generations searching for their identity after being moulded by a country that no longer exists. Dissonances that tear, reoccurring existential fears. An echo of contemporary history in one’s own life, the space between two worlds, and the question of the life that could have been possible.
