haloes & hula-hoops
Duo Show - Opening Friday 17th of January
Alice Peach, David Schiesser
18.01.2025 - 15.02.2025
In the duo exhibition "haloes & hula-hoops" by Milan-based artist Alice Peach and Berlin-based artist David Schiesser, a multi-layered dialogue and reflection on the cycle of being unfolds, which Schiesser expresses in his exploration of physical hybridity, while Peach focuses primarily on the cycle of representational things. Common themes such as sustainability, criticism of consumption, and the exploration of multiple perspectives, as well as a collective understanding and self-image, take centre stage.
Both artists transcend the formal boundaries of bodies and objects. They explore their hybrid forms, examine narratives of origin and meaning, and investigate the interplay between people, bodies, and objects. While Schiesser employs dynamic spirals, Peach often works with circular shapes to highlight and visualize this fundamental, recurring circular structure in their vibrant painting and object stories.
Fragmentary elements play a central role for both: they serve not only as a creative means but also as a concept that emphasises the complexity and changeability of identity, culture and materiality. Alice Peach picks up fragments of everyday life, deconstructs them and reassembles them in a new form. Her works reflect the materiality and potential of objects and invite us to rediscover their meaning. David Schiesser, on the other hand, is dedicated to timeless, universal cycles of creation and decay. In his works, he combines Old Testament stories with post-apocalyptic scenarios or traditional everyday situations to create new visual worlds full of symbolic depth.
The exhibition spans an arc between the personal, spiritual, and social significance of bodies and objects and allows us not only to observe but also to scrutinise and grasp the cycle of being and things anew.
