Invited by the three artists Georg Vierbuchen, Valentin Wedde and Cornelius Woyke, 16 artists explore the aesthetic and symbolic potential of discarded Christmas trees. Their starting point is the trees that are thrown out onto Berlin’s streets every year. Each of these trees has accompanied the Christmas season in a private, family or public context and carries within it traces of these individual experiences.The exhibition centres on the material of the trees themselves, their traces and stories, the transformation of last year’s supposedly worthless tree into a new object, and the diverse artistic approaches that emerge from it. One hundred collected Christmas trees serve as the shared raw material for the sixteen artists.
