Troyeshchyna, Kyiv. We were born and grew up there. Separated by a river, the largest sleeping district in Europe. A ghetto for working class people, people who had lost their jobs and confidence in the future.

My older brother is the personification of the first generation of young people in an independent Ukraine. He entered a world of criminality, heroin chic, MTV, sex and the first wave of techno. Live fast, die young. I saw his life and observed a generation described as lost. I heard a lot from my
brother, I saw a lot with my own eyes — not always understanding because of our signficant age difference.

In 2018, My brother died.

This project explores how time and place affect a person‘s destiny. I use my own memories about my brother, the memories his friends, and superimpose them onto the places he frequented. I recreate fragments of his biography and explore how the youth of Troyeshchyna have changed in
last 15 years.
