The question about the specific role of textiles in art due to its cultural and socioeconomic embeddedness let Teresa Weißert to an artistic position in which she draws textile structural metaphors, writes about and searches for textile phenomena in the world and a position in which she translates pictures of the floors surrounding her into self-woven tapestries.

The series "Based in Halle" translates sections of the street pavements of her former home town. In translation, the tapestries become abstract images that have their origins both in the aesthetic pleasure of patched-up streets and in the recurring question of whether a carpet belongs on the floor or on the wall.
