Schey‘s work investigates pure materiality by deconstructing technologically charged objects and recontextualizing their functions into static forms. Historical memories are frozen into data, visual information is transcribed into digits. Divested of digital functionality, their readymades appear in both past and present sculptures, demonstrating a consistent methodology. In „Plugged,“ branding and pop culture are woven into her narrative. By incorporating the potential to capture and amplify spoken words, Schey alters the viewer‘s perception, inducing sensory deprivation. Her art invites us to rethink and experience the nexus of technology, society, and materiality and encourages a deep reflection on how technological interactions shape our world.
